China produces a large share of the world's faucets, and the Zhejiang province — especially the Taizhou area — is one of its main sanitary ware clusters. That gives buyers a lot of choice, but it also makes it harder to tell a capable manufacturer from a trading company with a good catalog.
This checklist covers what experienced importers, wholesalers and project buyers look at before placing a first order.
1. Confirm you are talking to a real factory
Many suppliers present themselves as manufacturers. Before anything else, check:
- A verifiable factory address. The business licence, the factory address and the shipping address should match.
- Production you can see. Ask for a live video call walking through casting, machining, polishing, plating and assembly — not just a showroom.
- In-house processes. Note which steps happen in-house and which are outsourced. Outsourced plating or assembly is common, but you should know about it.
- How long they have been making faucets. Years in business and the size of the plant tell you whether the supplier can handle repeat orders.
2. Match certifications to your market
There is no single "international" faucet certificate. Ask for the documents your market actually requires, issued to the manufacturer's own name:
- Europe: CE marking, plus country schemes such as WRAS (UK) or ACS (France) where needed.
- Quality system: ISO 9001 shows the factory runs a documented quality management system.
- Other markets: for example WaterMark (Australia), cUPC/NSF (North America), SASO (Saudi Arabia) or INMETRO (Brazil).
Check that certificates are valid, cover the product types you are buying and can be verified with the issuing body.
3. Look closely at materials and finishes
Two faucets can look identical in a photo and perform very differently after a year of use. Ask about:
- Body material. Brass and zinc alloy are both widely used. Brass is the traditional premium choice; zinc alloy allows a lower price point. Make sure the material is stated clearly in the quotation so you can position the product correctly in your market.
- Cartridge. Ceramic-disc cartridges are standard for single-lever mixers. Ask for the cartridge size and supplier.
- Plating quality. Ask how the factory controls plating thickness and whether it runs salt spray tests on finished parts. Request the test report for the finish you are ordering.
- Polishing. Consistent polishing before plating is what gives chrome its mirror finish. Automated polishing lines help keep that consistent across large batches.
4. Check range, customization and packaging
A good manufacturing partner should be able to grow with your business:
- Range depth. Can the factory supply matching basin, bath, shower and kitchen mixers in one design family, so you can sell complete collections?
- OEM/ODM. Ask what can be customized — logo on the handle or body, finish, cartridge, hose and packaging — and what minimum quantities apply to each.
- Packaging. Colour boxes with your brand and barcodes are often required by retail customers. Confirm who designs the artwork and how proofs are approved.
5. Agree on samples, MOQ and lead time before you order
Put these in writing at the quotation stage:
- Samples: cost, lead time and whether sample fees are credited against the first order.
- MOQ: per model, per finish and per packaging design.
- Lead time: for the first order and for repeat orders, and what happens if it slips.
- Inspection: whether you can send a third-party inspector before shipment, and which standard the inspection follows.
6. Judge the communication, not just the price
The lowest quotation is rarely the lowest total cost. Pay attention to how the supplier handles your inquiry:
- Do they reply quickly and answer the actual question?
- Do they ask about your market, your customers and your target price?
- Do they send clear specifications and photos, not just a price list?
A supplier who communicates clearly before the order usually communicates clearly when something needs to be fixed during production.
